August 27, 2009: Western Bank's John Bennett elected to St. Paul Port Authority Board of Commissioners
St. Paul, MN. (August 27, 2009). Western Bank announced today that commercial banker John Bennett has been elected to the St. Paul Port Authority (SPPA) Board of Commissioners. Bennett, who has been at Western Bank for the past two years, will serve as one of seven members on the board.
"I am honored to be a part of the SPPA Board of Commissioners and look forward to helping the community of St. Paul and the East Metro find opportunities to create and grow prosperous businesses that yield new local jobs," said Bennett. "Continued economic development is vital in keeping the East Metro a competitive marketplace."
Since 1932, the Saint Paul Port Authority has contributed to the East Metro's growth and prosperity by providing businesses with cleaner land on which to expand, space on the Mississippi River to receive and ship commodities efficiently, loans for real estate and equipment purchases, and job training and career development for workers. The SPPA has carved 19 manufacturing business centers out of polluted and often abandoned land, and since 2000 it has helped create or retain more than 12,000 good-paying jobs in Saint Paul.
